Newsgroup Charter and Moderation Policy:

EMPLOYMENT/bionet.jobs.offered is to be used for the posting of job
openings in the biological sciences or professional level jobs that
support the work of biological scientists (such as for
computer/systems programming/support). Jobs in both the non-profit
and for-profit sectors may be posted without format restrictions.
For-profit jobs, however, must be for professional level positions
that support biology research or that require the hiring of someone
with biological expertise, i.e., routine administrative jobs in
commercial companies, e.g., secretarial positions at biotech
companies, will not be posted in this forum and should instead be sent
to misc.jobs.offered.

PLEASE BE SURE to use descriptive Subject: lines in your job postings.
It also helps to start with the abbreviated job location using the
country code and possibly the state/province, e.g.,

Subject: US/CA Postdoctoral postion in XXX

indicating that the job is in the United States/California. Subject
lines like "Job Opening" do not attract readers to your ad!!

Resumes will not be posted on bionet.jobs.offered. Such postings
should be directed to bionet.jobs.wanted.

			     IMPORTANT!!
Because of the volume of posts to this newsgroup, the moderator will
assume that the readers are familiar with the policy as stated in this
newsgroup charter and will reject without comment any messages that do
not follow the guidelines above. Appeals may be sent to
biosci-help@net.bio.net if one thinks that a posting was incorrectly
omitted. Misdirected resumes will be deleted without comment. It is
the responsibility of the posters, not the moderator, to read the
newsgroup usage instructions for bionet.jobs.wanted and

reaction has been fully reconstituted in vitro (Economou and Wickner,
1994 Cell 78:835-43; Economou et al., 1995 Cell, 83:1171-81). We wish
to explore further the energetics, catalytic mechanism and structure
of preprotein translocase. To this end the project will make use of
molecular biology and biochemical techniques together with biophysical
studies in collaboration with Horst Vogel (Lausanne Federal
Polytechnic; for recent work see: Soekarjo M et al,1996 Biochemistry
35:1232-41; Pawlak M et al, 1994 Biochemistry 33:283-90; Vogel H 1992,

Junior Postdoctoral Fellow Position (available fall 1996) to investigate
the control and/or function of DNA methylation in Neurospora. Suggested
areas of research include studying: 1. how particular sequences trigger
methylation; 2. mechanisms responsible for "inheritance" of methylation;
3. effects of methylation on transcription; 4. genes involved in
methylation. The research will build on prior work that has generated
mutants defective in DNA methylation, established a role for methylation
in inhibiting transcription, and defined elements in mechanisms
controlling DNA methylation. A strong background in molecular biology and

Persons with a degree in engineering or other technical disciplines
and/or work experience, interested in teaching English to employees of
major corporations for one year in Japan, should read on.

International Education Services - a leading consultancy in such fields
as cross cultural communications and management development - is
recruiting a number of qualified individuals to work in Japan. We are
especially interested in applicants with experience in computer
training to work in major corporations and government agencies teaching
English and computer skills.

We are also very interested in applicants with a pharmaceutical
background.

We conduct interviews frequently in various major metropolitan areas
throughout the U.S.A., Canada and England. We have scheduled
interviews to take place on June 11th in Detroit, June 15th in the
Washington DC area and June 29th in the San Francisco area.

IES instructors are guaranteed an annual salary of 3,000,000 yen. IES
instructors are compensated at a rate of 3,500 yen per hour. Further
details regarding instructor compensation will be provided during your
interview. IES reimburses instructors for transportation to and from
class assignments.

IES will act as your sponsor, enabling you to receive a proper work
visa. We organize and hand-deliver all documentation (yours and ours)
to Immigration for processing and handle any questions which may arise.

IES operates a residence location service, assisting you to locate
comfortable housing. Our Settling-In Coodinator will contact several
realtors on your behalf so that you can select a residence with which
you are financially and personally comfortable. IES will become the
guarantor for your housing, as almost all property owners in Japan will
require a renter to have a guarantor. IES can also offer a number of
instructors temporary housing in the IES International Mansion.

IES was founded in 1969. Our instructors are recruited from the United
States, Canada and Great Britain. The vast majority of the staff is in
their 20's and 30's and each has at least a B.A. or B.S. degree; many
of them hold advanced degrees. Their work experience covers a broad
range of disciplines and industries.

If interested in this opportunity, please fax or email to us a detailed
resume and short covering letter as soon as possible.

Should you have any additional questions regarding IES or life in
Japan, please do not hesitate to contact us via post, phone, or fax.
Our telephone number is (81-3)-3498-7101 and our Fax is
(81-3)-3498-7113. Note that '81' is the country code for Japan and '3'
the city code for Tokyo. Our email address is iesinfo@iac.co.jp

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITION

AVAILABLE

A position is available to study the molecular genetics of replication
and the cell cycle in the mammalian genome. We use Epstein-Barr and
human papilloma virus sequences as model systems both in vivo and in
vitro to study site-specific initiation and termination of DNA
replication (Cell 58:527, 1989; Mol. Cell. Biol. 11:6268, 1991; J.
Virol. 67:1739, 1993; Mol. Cell. Biol. 15:2893, 1995). The replication
of globin and immunoglobulin gene families (Mol. Cell. Biol. 8: 2149
and 4958, 1988; 9:3524, 1989; 10:4314 and 4324, 1990) and the role of
replication in oncogene rearrangements and in development is being
investigated. We are characterizing origins of replication that we
have identified in human rDNA (Mol. Cell. Biol., 13:6600, 1993).
Targeted integration mediated by homologous recombination will be used
to modify chromosomal origins and to determine the sequences critical
for origin function. Other projects include the role of cell cycle
checkpoints in regulating DNA replication. The spatial and temporal
organization of DNA replication in mammalian nuclei is also being
studied.

Supported by NIH funding for at least four years. The Albert Einstein
College of Medicine is located in a pleasant, very safe, residential
area of New York.

Details:

The Decision Systems Group (DSG) is a research laboratory, affiliated with
Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital, that is devoted
to the investigation of computing applications in patient care, medical
education, and decision support.

A key characteristic of physician practice and medical student education
is their problem-oriented rather than task-oriented nature, and the need
to access and integrate a wide variety of information resources (clinical
data, expert knowledge, images, etc.) in the process of carrying out
professional work. A principal area of research at the Decision Systems
Group is in the application of clinical guideline information to the
development of an advanced ³smart² clinical workstation. In this system,
guideline-based information about patient status is used to facilitate
data entry and other mundane tasks, to support more rapid and targeted
access to clinical resources and decision support materials, to automate
routine tasks such as scheduling and the generation of informational
alerts, and to assist in management of work flow in an ³extended
enterprise² clinical computing environment.

Software development done by the successful candidate will make use of a
CORBA-based tool kit for distributed application development. This tool
kit, called Arachne, is the product of previous DSG work that was aimed at
facilitating the construction of portable applications in a
³component-based² manner.
