Newsgroup Charter and Moderation Policy:

EMPLOYMENT/bionet.jobs.offered is to be used for the posting of job
openings in the biological sciences or professional level jobs that
support the work of biological scientists (such as for
computer/systems programming/support). Jobs in both the non-profit
and for-profit sectors may be posted without format restrictions.
For-profit jobs, however, must be for professional level positions
that support biology research or that require the hiring of someone
with biological expertise, i.e., routine administrative jobs in
commercial companies, e.g., secretarial positions at biotech
companies, will not be posted in this forum and should instead be sent
to misc.jobs.offered.

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR JOB AD MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN A FEW DAYS. The
newsgroup is moderated and sometimes the moderator is delayed in
processing the postings. Sending in duplicates creates additional
work for the moderator who has to start out by looking at and deleting
duplicate posts. Rest assured that your post will go out as soon as
possible if it falls within our charter or you will be contacted if
there is a problem (unless the post is an obvious spam - see below).

PLEASE BE SURE to use descriptive Subject: lines in your job postings.
It also helps to start with the abbreviated job location using the
country code and possibly the state/province, e.g.,

Subject: US/CA Postdoctoral postion in XXX

indicating that the job is in the United States/California. Subject
lines like "Job Opening" do not attract readers to your ad!!

Resumes will not be posted on bionet.jobs.offered. Such postings
should be directed to bionet.jobs.wanted.

			     IMPORTANT!!
Because of the volume of posts to this newsgroup, the moderator will
assume that the readers are familiar with the policy as stated in this
newsgroup charter and will reject without comment any messages that do
not follow the guidelines above. Appeals may be sent to
biosci-help@net.bio.net if one thinks that a posting was incorrectly
omitted. Misdirected resumes will be deleted without comment. It is
the responsibility of the posters, not the moderator, to read the
newsgroup usage instructions for bionet.jobs.wanted and
bionet.jobs.offered.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER - The moderator does not check the content or
accuracy of EMPLOYMENT/bionet.jobs.offered job ads and makes no
warranty, expressed or implied, about the truthfulness or accuracy of
the job descriptions posted on this newsgroup. The moderator's sole
function is to filter out messages that do not appear to conform to
the newsgroup charter above and distribute messages that do appear to
conform to the newsgroup charter. Readers assume all responsibility
for confirming on their own the accuracy of the job descriptions
posted to the newsgroup.

POSTDOC POSITION IN TRANSCRIPTIONAL REGULATION

PROJECT:The project will be part of the ongoing research in my
laboratory, which focuses on the regulation and function of genes during
endometrial stromal cell decidualization as a model of progesterone
induced cell differentiation. In particular, we study transcriptional
control of endometrial-specific gene expression. Our marker gene is
prolactin which is transcribed from a tissue-specific promoter in human
stromal cells only after they have been induced to decidualize by
progesterone and other factors. The aim of the project is to identify
the transcription factors responsible for decidual specific prolactin
gene expression as compared to lymphoblast and pituitary prolactin
expression. The project involves the analysis of the prolactin gene
using conventional biochemical techniques including EMSA, DNase I
footprinting, and transient transfection. Development and
characterization of human cell lines capable of differentiation in vitro
is currently underway but is also an important component of the
post-doctoral project. Another avenue being pursued is the use of
transgenic mouse technology to map endometrial-specific regulatory
regions. The longterm goal is to identify key transcription factors and
their coactivators downstream of progesterone receptor action which
define the cascade of differentiation events leading to the development
of decidual cells.

QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate should have strong background in molecular
biology with an interest in reproductive biology and transcriptional
regulation.

POSITION: This position is available immediately and is renewable for up
to 2 years. This is an MRC funded project and the salary will follow MRC
guidelines but is negotiable depending on the level of research
experience.

LOCATION: We are located in the Cancer Research Labs on the London
Health Sciences Campus. We are closely affiliated with the University of
Western Ontario in London, Ontario. The Cancer Research Labs are
expanding and areas of research focus include molecular control of
hormone action, metals in signal transduction, control of cell
differentiation. London is located in southwestern Ontario,

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology (PMBB) Group/
Horticulture and Crop Science
The Ohio State University
Columbus, Ohio USA

A postdoctoral position is available to investigate the sugar
sensing and signal transduction pathway in higher plants.
Using a combination of biochemical, genetic and molecular
approaches, we have identified the first plant sugar sensor,
hexokinase (Plant Cell 6, 1665-1679; Plant Cell 9, 5-19;
Trends in Plant Science 2, 208-214). Future projects include:
the characterization of transgenic Arabidopsis with aberrant
levels of hexokinase, the identification of other components
that are involved in the sugar signal transduction pathway
and the investigation of interactions between sugar and other
signaling pathways.

A second project to study plant steroid hormones is also
available. We have identified several classes of Arabidopsis
mutants that are involved in steroid hormone
biosynthesis/signaling pathway. A T-DNA tagged brassinolide
insensitive mutant with extra long life (ell) and
uncontrolled meristematic activity has been analyzed. ell
appears to have a lesion in a sterol reductase gene. Future
work include: the characterization of the ell mutant, the
investigation of the function of ELL, and the analysis of
other mutants.

The position will be in the Plant Molecular
Biology/Biotechnology (PMBB) Group/ Horticulture and Crop
Science Department, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio
USA. Candidates should have demonstrated experience and
publications in molecular biology, genetics or cell biology.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a brief statement

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITION

AVAILABLE

A position is available to study the molecular genetics of replication
and the cell cycle in the mammalian genome. We use Epstein-Barr and
human papilloma virus sequences as model systems both in vivo and in
vitro to study site-specific initiation and termination of DNA
replication (Cell 58:527, 1989; Mol. Cell. Biol. 11:6268, 1991; J.
Virol. 67:1739, 1993; Mol. Cell. Biol. 15:2893, 1995; J. Biol. Chem.
271:33009, 1996). The replication of globin and immunoglobulin gene
families (Mol. Cell. Biol. 8: 2149 and 4958, 1988; 9:3524, 1989;
10:4314 and 4324, 1990) and the role of replication in oncogene
rearrangements and in development is being investigated. We are
characterizing origins of replication that we have identified in human
rDNA (Mol. Cell. Biol., 13:6600, 1993). Targeted integration mediated
by homologous recombination will be used to modify chromosomal origins
and to determine the sequences critical for origin function. Other
projects include the role of the Locus Control Region (LCR) in the
regulation of replication of globin and immunoglobulin gene loci. The
spatial and temporal organization of DNA replication in mammalian
nuclei is also being studied.

Supported by NIH funding for at least three years. The Albert Einstein

POST DOCTORAL POSITION
in Canberra, Australia with Andrew Torda.

Each year, the Research School of Chemistry at the
Australian National University has a series of post-doctoral
fellowships awarded on a competitive basis. Applications for
the current round will be taken until about July 31, 1997.
Expected starting date January 1998.

There are positions in several groups. This ad mainly
describes my group.

The research group of Andrew Torda is oriented towards
biomolecular calculation and simulation. We are working in
areas such as low-resolution (protein fold recognition) force
fields, refinement of experimental structures using MD
simulation, mixing knowledge-based force fields and
experimental data.
All the projects in the group involve coding - not just
applications. It would be an advantage to have a reasonable
knowledge of data structures and algorithms and programming
experience in civilized languages (not fortran).

Currently, possible projects would be centred around some new
algorithms for aligning amino acid sequences to structures,
based on the force fields we have developed. We are also
looking at protein fold classification using topological and
graph theory methods.
Projects are negotiable.

Salary: $40,963 - $43,834 per annum. Grants are provided
towards travel and removal. Positions are initially for two
years with a possible extension to a third year. There is a
housing office to help find accommodation.

The Research School of Chemistry is part of the Institute of
Advanced Studies which runs special research schools, in
parallel to the normal teaching schools, and without any
undergraduate teaching duties. The university is in the centre
of Canberra (the nation's capital).

Given the research orientation of the school, there is a
lively academic environment. We have close contacts with the
school's other theoretical groups in statistical mechanics,
quantum chemistry and chemical physics. From the point of view
of experimental groups, we maintain close ties to the school's
NMR, X-ray crystallography and molecular biology groups.

Anyone interested in the Torda group should look at
  http://www.rsc.anu.edu.au/~torda
That also contains a pointer to a page of recent publications.

The official advertisement is at
  http://www.rsc.anu.edu.au/RSC/AcademicPositions/RSC_Academic_Positions.html
and read under "Postdoctoral Fellowships".
This contains instructions for how to apply.

Postdoctoral fellowship: Mechanisms of GABA release during seizures.
Program in Neuroscience
Departments of Neurology, and Cellular & Molecular Physiology
Yale University School of Medicine

NIH funded postdoctoral fellowship position to study the role of
reversal of the GABA transporter in GABA release during high frequency
neuronal firing. GABA can be released in a nonvesicular manner from
neurons and glia in response to depolarization and elevation of
extracellular potassium, due to reversal of the GABA transporter. We
have recently demonstrated that this form of release has large
electrophysiological effects on postsynaptic neurons. The candidate will
use whole-cell, and perforated patch-clamp recordings from hippocampal
neurons in thin brain slices and in culture to define the role that this
form of nonvesicular GABA release plays during physiological high
frequency firing and seizures.

Applicants should have experience in electrophysiologic techniques,
preferably patch clamp recording. Ph.D. in Physiology, Neuroscience,
or Biology preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Position is for one year, renewable up to 3 years based on progress.

Analogic Corporation

Computer Design and Applications Division

Employment Opportunities Area,

Located at: http://www.webrad.com/test/employment/employment.html

The CDA division of Analogic is a leading supplier of critical
subsystems in the rapidly emerging field of medical imaging. CDA
developed the innovative DASM-Rx family of image management
and connectivity products for OEMs and system integrators. Designed for
hospitals with an installed base of imaging modalities from different
vendors, these subsystems allow hospitals to network their older
radiology equipment to the latest output and communications
devices, resulting in considerable cost savings while improving
physician access to images.

CDA is also addressing the need for cost-effective wide-area-network
medical image management. In cooperation with Georgetown University, we
have developed the first set of teleradiology products for the Internet,
