A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the University of
Tennessee, Knoxville, to characterize structural aspects of the binding
interface between proteins. Over-expression systems exist for several
hetero-binary and ternary protein complexes. Current projects are
directed at cytoplasmic signalling molecules. The laboratory is equipped
with state-of-the-art molecular biology and protein purification
facilities and has full access to the department's R-AXIS IV detector.
Applicants must have
a PhD degree and should have a good background in molecular biology and
protein purification. Knowledge of crystallographic techniques would be
beneficial but is not a pre-requisite. Interested candidates are
encouraged to contact me by e-mail: elias.fernandez@utk.edu. Applicants
should send a full CV and the names and addresses of two referees to Dr.
Elias Fernandez, BCMB, F435 Walters Life Sciences Building, Knoxville,
TN 37996-0840, USA.

Postdoctoral Fellow Position, Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory

The Research Section of the Armed Forces DNA Identification
Laboratory (AFDIL) is seeking postdoctoral candidates for application for a
"Callendar-Binford Fellowship" sponsored by the American Registry of
Pathology. The candidate would enter a competitive selection process, but
prospects for successful funding are comparatively high. The American
Registry of Pathology can sponsor only a small number of visas, limited to
foreign nationals currently residing in their home country. As a result, US
citizens may stand a better chance for competing successfully for the
fellowship. This is a one year fellowship, with a stipend of $30,000.
Duration of the Fellowship is from July 2003-June 2004. Application
deadline is May 15, 2002, and requires three letters of reference, but does
not require a detailed project proposal.

Research projects will be determined in coordination with the Chief
Scientist, AFDIL. Suitable areas of investigation include: improved
methods recovery of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA from degraded skeletal
remains, mtDNA and Y-chromosomal forensic applications and population
genetics, forensic statistics, mtDNA SNP discovery and assay design, mtDNA
phylogenetics and molecular evolution, etc... AFDIL is a premier ancient
DNA laboratory, with excellent instrumentation to include robotics for high
throughput applications. Interested candidates should immediately contact:
