A postdoctoral position is currently available to conduct research in
the area of iron deficiency in the model plant cell system,
Chlamydomonas reinhardtii at Umeå Plant Science Center, Umeå University,
Sweden.

The project the successful applicant will take part in is focused on
identifying how a photosynthetic organism adapts to iron deficient
conditions. This is done at the molecular level by identifying iron
regulatory promoter elements in genes regulated by iron, and at the
cellular level through a proteomics project that will identify changes
in the proteome during adaptation to iron deficiency.

The term of the appointment will be for one year with the possibility of
renewal for an additional 1-2 years. Review of applications will begin
immediately and continue until the position is filled. Applicants are
requested to submit a CV, description of research interests, and names,
telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of two references by email or fax
to:

Key skills: Therapeutic Protein Formulation

Location: Cambridge

Duration: Permanent

Our client is a biotechnology company engaged in the discovery and
development of a new generation of proprietary protein products that
incorporate the biological benefits and commercial advantages of both
large proteins and small molecules.

They require a Scientist for Protein Formulation and QC.

Function

A position is available to work on the formulation and route of
administration of therapeutic single domain antibody products. The
person will assess domain antibody formulations, stabilities and
develop QC analysis in addition to testing using delivery models.

Qualifications/Experience

PhD or MSc in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical discipline with at least
three years experience in a commercial setting of therapeutic protein
formulation, stability studies and QC. Familiarity with in vitro and
in vivo modelling of routes of administration and delivery
technologies would be an advantage. A strong attention to detail and
diligence in record keeping are essential. The candidate must have a
flexible and enthusiastic approach to their work and, whilst able to
work independently, must also know when to ask for advice.

Position Summary

With a PhD or MSc in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical discipline and a
strong emphasis in formulation and delivery of therapeutics, you will
participate in the advancement of single domain antibodies as
therapeutic agents. This will involve establishing assays to assess
formulation, stabilities and QC as well as routes of administration.

Postdoctoral positions are immediately available in Dr. Haining Zhu's group
in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at the College of
Medicine of University of Kentucky. The projects will involve research in
proteomics of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease
characterized by the selective death of motor neurons. We are interested in
analyzing proteomes of motor neurons and elucidating the mechanisms of
mutation-induced, selective motor neuron death. Molecular biology, 2D gel
electrophoresis, nanoflow HPLC and quodrupole time-of-flight type of mass
spectrometry will be the major techniques employed. Experience in
neurobiology, molecular biology and neuronal cell culture is required.
Experience in mass spectrometry is preferred but NOT required. You will
have access to the state-of-art mass spectrometry instrument and will be
trained in mass spectrometry and proteomics. People with experience in mass
spectrometry and want to learn more biology are welcome to apply too. The
positions could start immediately. Send a CV, cover letter and list of
references to Dr. Zhu at haining@uky.edu.

the position is filled.

DEPARTMENT: This search is taking place in the context of rapid growth
of the Biological Sciences Department. The successful candidate will
play a major role in integrating an expanded Biology faculty into UMR
initiatives aimed at interdisciplinary research with existing
strengths in engineering and science departments on campus. The
Department of Biological Sciences offers BA and BS degrees in General
Biology and the MS degree in Applied and Environmental Biology and
anticipates further growth to include the PhD degree in the next five
years. Additional information on the department and faculty research
interests is available at www.umr.edu/~biosci.

UNIVERSITY: UMR is part of the University of Missouri System, with
sister campuses in Columbia, Kansas City, and St. Louis. The Rolla
campus is recognized as "Missouri's Technological University" with
major emphasis in engineering and science. Approximately 5000 students
are enrolled in degree programs within the School of Engineering, the
School of Mines and Metallurgy, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Strong academic programs, small class size, and excellent facilities
serve to attract students with superior ability.

COMMUNITY: The city of Rolla, with approximately 16,000 residents, is
located near the center of the state of Missouri, in the foothills of
the Ozarks surrounded by oak-hickory forest, in a region with numerous

Postdoctoral Position in Proteomics/Seed Quality
Dr Chris Rampitsch

<crampitsch@agr.gc.ca>

We are using proteomics approaches to study seed quality of wheat. The biochemical make-up of a mature wheat seed has a
strong bearing on the quality of the grain and consequently the quality of food products made from this grain. To understand
how the seed is put together as it develops is critical if changes in seed composition (and hence quality) are desired. The details
of the project will be finalized with input from the successful candidate. Past commitment from the Canadian Government to
fund wheat genomics research has given us a solid foundation for proteomics research in the area of wheat seed quality.
Funding for this project is secure for at least two years with the likelihood of further extension. Our laboratory at the Cereal

NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are immediately available in Dr. Haining
Zhu's group in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at the
College of Medicine of University of Kentucky. The projects will involve
research in proteomics of metal ion homeostasis using yeast as a model
organism. We are interested in analyzing proteomes of yeast strains with
and without specific metal ion regulation genes. Yeast genetics, molecular
biology, 2D gel electrophoresis, nanoflow HPLC and quodrupole
time-of-flight type of mass spectrometry will be the major techniques
employed. Experience in yeast genetics and molecular biology is required.
