The biochemical make-up of a mature wheat seed has a strong bearing on the quality of the grain and consequently the quality of food products made from this grain. To understand how the seed is put together as it develops is critical if changes in seed composition (and hence quality) are desired. The details of the project will be finalized with input from the successful candidate. Past commitment from the Canadian Government to fund wheat genomics research has given us a solid foundation for proteomics research in the area of wheat seed quality. Funding for this project is secure for at least two years with the likelihood of further extension.
