A position is immediately available for a Ph.D.
level scientist to investigate metabolism in
Sinorhizobium meliloti, the nitrogen-fixing
bacterial symbiont of alfalfa, in a project funded
by the US Department of Energy. The focus of the
multi-year project is on carbon catabolism and
energy generation in free-living and symbiotic
bacteria and in the relationship between plant and
bacterial metabolism during symbiosis. An ideal
candidate will have an interest in plant-microbe
interactions and have experience in enzyme
analysis, protein purification and molecular
biology techniques related to protein manipulation
and the analysis of bacterial physiology. The
project may involve work with microarrays and a
set of advanced functional genomics tools we are
developing. Applicants currently in the USA
strongly preferred.

Post-doctoral position as posted on Postdoc Jobs website:

http://www.PostdocJobs.com
-----------------
Protein Chemists, Structural Biologists and Synthetic Organic Chemists
are encouraged to apply for post-doctoral opportunities (currently
three funded positions are available) in the Departments of Chemistry
and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Central Florida in
Orlando, FL. The protein project is in the area of inhibitor design
and structure determination of novel phospho-inositol cleaving
enzymes. Crystal growth has been completed (with preliminary data
collected) for two of these enzymes. Proteins involved in cancer
progression and amino acid degradation pathways are also under
investigation. The synthetic project involves the generation and
biological evaluation of a series of polyamine-drug conjugates. These
will be screened for their transport and cytotoxicity properties.
Applicants should have a PhD and a solid background in protein
purification and characterization or crystallography or synthesis.
Additional training in the area of high throughput protein
purification and molecular biology techniques as well as
crystallography is available. Salary will be commensurate with
experience and follow NIH guidelines. Applicants should send a CV,
cover letter with statement of interest, and arrange to have three
letters of reference.

Molecular Biologist- A New Haven County, Connecticut biopharmaceutical
company has asked us to help locate a Molecular Biologist with several years
of experience in a research environment. This company has a strong capital
base and in the last two years, they have seen a 200% growth in size. They
expect to double their employees again within the next year. The Molecular
Biologist will be doing plenty of PCR, transfection, and tissue culturing
work in a R & D lab which is supposed to be the best department here. The
atmosphere is friendly and casual. The salary will probably range from
$45,000 to $50,000, depending on level of experience. In addition, there is
a 9% bonus based on salary and they offer stock options, which should be
worth some significant money in a four year period. They require four or
more years experience in Molecular Biology in a research environment and
permanent U.S. residency, coupled with a BS or MS degree in Biological
Science. Advanced degrees in Molecular/Cellular Biology are preferred. It is
not mandatory that this individual comes from the pharmaceutical industry,
so this is a fine opportunity to break in from an academic environment.

CHEMIST- Drug metabolism- A New Haven County biopharmaceutical company has
asked us to locate a Chemist with a background in drug metabolism. This
company has an untraditional, relaxed atmosphere, accessible, visionary
management, the latest development tools, and millions in the bank for drug
discovery. This is in a new drug discovery group which has grown by a factor
of seven in the past year. The chemist will be doing both in vivo and in
vitro PK work on drug metabolism using mass spectroscopy. They ask for two
or more years experience in PK analysis on drug metabolism studies, and some
familiarity with mass spec. instrumentation, coupled with a BS or MS degree
in chemistry or biological sciences. The salary ranges from $45,000 to
$55,000, and the benefits include stock options and three weeks vacation the
first year. In addition, there is an annual bonus program which could yield
another 1 to 3 % of salary, depending on individual contribution.

Interested parties should contact Sandra Benge, at KirklandSEARCH, (203)

Ph.D. studentship in stem cell biology

Looking for a person with a masters degree in cell biology, immunology,
biochemistry, or molecular biology who seeks a Ph.D. The project aims to
investigate immunological properties of embryonic stem cells. Techniques
include (in the order of importance) cell culture, work with mice, and
molecular biology. Training will be given, but relevant practical
experience is seen as an advantage. Excellent working conditions are
offered, full dedication is expected.

NIH POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
CARTILAGE MRI

Postdoctoral positions are available for work in the Nuclear
Magnetic Resonance Unit (Richard Spencer, Chief) of the National
Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health, located in
Baltimore, Maryland. The work will center on spectroscopic and
imaging studies of cartilage tissue derived from tissue engineering
protocols and from animal studies. Other research opportunities may
be available depending on the interests and background of the
successful candidate.
	NMR instrumentation consists of a triple-resonance wide-bore
Bruker DMX 400 Avance system with microimaging and solids capability,
and a double-resonance Bruker ABX 1.9T/31 cm Biospec with shielded
gradients. A Bruker 7T/30 cm DBX is on order and should be fully
operational by February, 2003.
A background in NMR spectroscopy or imaging of connective
tissue is preferred, although applicants with expertise in cartilage
biology who have the desire to learn NMR techniques are also strongly
encouraged to apply. We also invite applications from individuals
with experience in other areas of biological NMR. The appointment
will be as an IRTA Postdoctoral Fellow for US citizens, or as a
Visiting Fellow for US non-citizens. Accordingly, applicants must
have fewer than five years of postdoctoral experience.
Interested individuals should send or e-mail their CV and the
names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of at least three
references to: Dr. Richard Spencer, NMR Unit, NIH/NIA, GRC 4D-08,
