Postdoctoral position to investigate the evolutionary diversification of
function in chromatin proteins, with emphasis on plants (for preliminary
studies, see Pandey et al. 2002. Analysis of histone acetyltransferase and
histone deacetylase families of Arabidopsis thaliana suggests functional
diversification of chromatin modification among multicellular eucaryotes.
Nucleic Acids Research 30:5036-5055; see also The Plant Chromatin Database;
www.chromdb.org). Emphasis will be on analyses of additional genomes such as
rice, chlamydomonas, poplar and neurospora, and on identification of
signatures of selection at various time scales, including through the use of
linkage disequilibrium studies to identify evidence of recent selection,
such as during the domestication of rice. This work will be done in the
context of a large multi-institution plant genome consortium investigating
the functional genomics of chromatin. Experience in evolutionary genetics
and familiarity with appropriate computational tools necessary. For
information, please contact Richard Jorgensen, Dept of Plant Sciences and
Interdisciplinary Program in Genetics, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Great Plains Systems
Research, Fort Collins, Co. is seeking a postdoctoral research
associate (Soil Scientist,). Ph.D. is desired. Salary is commensurate
with experience ($46,689- $60,700 per annum, plus benefits). There are
some citizenship restrictions. USDA is currently unable to sponsor
H-1B or TN Visas. The incumbent will develop a decision aid for
farmers to analyze potentials and risks of alternative crop rotations
for different soil and climatic conditions in the central Great
Plains. The validated system models GPFARM and RZWQM-CERES/CROPGRO
HYBRIDS will be used to synthesize and quantify the performance of
different rotations as a function of soil and climate conditions. Year
to year variability of results will be related to probability
distributions of rainfall and frequency, intensity, and timing of
natural hazards. GPFARM will be used to determine economic returns. A
graphical database/atlas of experimental data and model simulations
will serve to analyze potentials and risks. Refer to www.ars.usda.gov
for the full text announcement (RA-02-028H) and for complete
application instructions. Send application materials and reference.

m-line biotechnologies Method of biorhythmic audio stimulation
      =20
    =20
Sensation! Together with Canadian scientists we have =
developed a medicaments-free method of treatment and prophylaxis of many =
diseases.=20

This method is based on the principles of audio stimulation =
using biological feedback. Impact of especially generated biorhythmic =
impulses upon cerebral cortex occurs in course of auditing of the melody =
chosen by you, which results into change of biorhythm.=20

With healthy people biorhythms change physiologically, in =
accordance with definite time intervals, and depending on state of mind. =

Nervous overcharge, stresses, diseases, pharmacological =
addiction, etc, result in disturbance of self-regulation of cerebral =
cortex biorhythms. This leads to irregularity of general rhythm of vital =
functions and to disturbance of consciousness.=20

Our method allows corrections in irregularity of biorhythms =
and guarantee comfortable state of health. The method brings soft =
physiological influence upon cerebral cortex, tuning up precisely to the =
necessary biorhythm. Use of the method is absolutely safe, as it doesn't =
cause addiction and has a stable and prolonged effect. This will =
undoubtedly give a possibility of application of the method with wide =
sections of patients - both healthy people and people with various =
illnesses.=20

--------------------

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Southern Regional Research
Center, New Orleans, LA, is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE,
(Research Molecular Biologist). Ph.D. is required. Salary is
commensurate with experience ($46,469 - $72,746 per annum), plus
benefits. There are some citizenship restrictions. USDA is currently
unable to sponsor H-1B or TN visas. The incumbent will utilize DNA
probe technology to measure the expression of fungal and host plant
(corn) genes governing aflatoxin contamination during the plant-fungus
interaction. Probes are derived from genes associated with a
previously identified aflatoxin pathway gene cluster housing 16 to 20
genes, and from resistance-associated genes identified in kernels of
resistant corn inbreds. Research progress with specific identified DNA
probes ultimately will lead to the use of microarray technology for
global characterization of genes governing the Aspergillus flavus-corn
interaction as targets for selective breeding to reduce aflatoxin
contamination.

Postdoctoral Positions in Theoretical Chemistry with V. Rassolov,
University of South Carolina

We are seeking two postdoctoral researchers for research projects in
quantum chemistry. One project involves development and application of
a semiclassical method based on quantum trajectories. Familiarity with
time dependent quantum mechanics and some programming experience are
required. Second project is about the development and application of a
geminal theory based on strongly orthogonal geminals. This project
requires profound knowledge of modern electronic structure methods and
some programming experience (C++ and/or FORTRAN).

Both projects require individuals capable of independent research. We
believe in creative nature of theoretical work. Therefore, some
flexibility in the choice of research topic will be offered to
successful candidates. Salary and benefits are negotiable. Both
positions are available for a year with a possibility of extension for
another year.

Postdoctoral position in molecular pharmacology and/or biochemistry.

NIH funded research on the characterization of peptides that target
nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Due to their exquisite selectivity
conotoxins are used as templates for creating new molecular probes .
These peptides are then used to study neurotranmitter release in the
CNS. The research is cross-disciplinary in nature, involving
neuroscience, biochemistry, pharmacology, electrophysiology and
molecular biology. The work also involves opportunity for interaction

Postdoctoral opportunity in University of California, Davis

A postdoctoral position is available for a recent Ph.D. to study
molecular mechanisms of autoimmunity and autoimmune pathogenesis. A
major project concerns the characterization of B and T cell
determinants of megalin/gp330 relevant to its role as the autoantigen
of Heymann nephritis. A principal approach involves generation of
recombinant antigenic proteins in baculovirus expression systems.
Studies are presently focused on the identification of major
conformational epitopes and the role of posttranslational
modifications in the induction of pathogenic autoimmunity. The
analysis will progress towards an understanding of both cellular and
antibody-mediated mechanisms of disease. Novel approaches involving
both structurally defined antigens and monoclonal antibodies have been
proposed to elucidate the pathway for propagation of the autoimmune
responses. Molecular studies of megalin are also interesting in regard
to its cellular function and its relationship to the LDL receptor
family of proteins. Applications are invited from self-motivated
individuals with a strong background in protein biochemistry,
molecular immunology and molecular biology. Experience in baculovirus
cloning and expression, Western blot and lectin blot analysis and/or
phage display technology is desirable. UC Davis provides a highly
collaborative research environment with excellent facilities. Salary
is commensurate with experience. Email responses are encouraged.
