Postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Haining Zhu's group in the
Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at the College of
Medicine of University of Kentucky. The projects will involve research in
proteomics of zinc ion homeostasis in prostate tissue as well as its
relevance to prostate cancer. We are interested in analyzing proteomes of
normal and cancerous prostate cells. Molecular biology, tissue culture, 2D
gel electrophoresis, nanoflow HPLC and quodrupole time-of-flight type of
mass spectrometry will be the major techniques employed. Experience in
molecular biology is required. Experience in mass spectrometry is preferred
but NOT required. You will have access to the state-of-art mass
spectrometry instrument and will be trained in mass spectrometry and
proteomics. People with experience in mass spectrometry and want to learn
more biology are also welcome to apply. The positions can start
immediately. Send a cover letter, CV and list of three referees to Dr. Zhu
at haining@uky.edu. More information about the group can be found at

Postdoctoral position as posted on Postdoc Jobs website:

http://www.PostdocJobs.com
-------------------

A postdoctoral position is available immediately to characterize
transcription factors involved in tissue specification in the marine
invertebrate chordate, Ciona intestinalis. The projects will focus on
unraveling the gene regulatory networks involved in development and
differentiation of the notochord. Tissue-specific transcription
factors involved in establishing tissue identities will be analyzed.
The projects will also involve in vivo experiments, e.g. targeted
silencing of the genes of interest and analysis of the resultant
phenotypes.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. and a documented experience in
molecular biology, with a particular emphasis on the isolation of
DNA-binding proteins. A basic background in developmental and
evolutionary biology and good communication skills are highly
desirable. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable.
Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae, a brief summary
of research experience and interests, and names of three references.

Postdoctoral position as posted on Postdoc Jobs website:

http://www.PostdocJobs.com
-------------------

A postdoctoral position in structural biology is currently open in the
Department of Biochemistry at the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. Training and experience in X-ray
crystallography is required. The incumbent will study macromolecular
interactions among components of the BCKD complex, a 4 MDa metabolic
machine catalyzing the oxidative decarboxylation of alpha-ketoacids in
mitochondria. Disorders in the BCKD complex result in branched-chain
ketoaciduria and primary biliary cirrhosis. This work is in
collaboration with Drs. Mischa Machius and Diana Tomchick of the
Structural Biology Laboratory in the same department. Well diffracting
crystals are available. This position will be supported by newly
awarded NIH funds for a period of up to 5 years. Salary is competitive
and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Cochlear outer hair cells convert sound-induced mechanical vibration
into electrical signal at their stereocilia. They also perform reverse
transduction, in which their cell body acts as an actuator. Such a
combinations of cellular properties can be the basis for a feedback
loop in the inner ear that brings about the ear's sensitivity as well
as frequency selectivity. We investigate the cellular and molecular
mechanisms of these cells in connection with their biological roles
with membrane biophysical means. Two main current projects are:

[1] Clarify the motile mechanism of outer hair cells. We are examining
prestin, the novel membrane protein that is the motor's constituent,
and the motor in outer hair cells to clarify the possible involvement
of other elements in the hair cell motors. We further plan to study
structure and function relationship of prestin.

[2] Study potassium channels in outer hair cells. We found that basal
turn hair cells have usually fast-activating potassium channels, which
we hypothesize hold a key to clarifying the biological role. We
investigate detailed properties of these channels.

The applicant must be within five (5) years of doctorate. Please have
three (3) reference letters forwarded. Experience in patch-clamping
and other electrophysiological methods is desirable. A background in
physics or theoretical analysis is appreciated.

Postdoctoral position as posted on Postdoc Jobs website:

http://www.PostdocJobs.com
-------------------

Our laboratory is developing new protein-based therapeutic strategies.
More precisely, our group is presently generating well-known
tumor-associated antigens using recombinant methods. Structural
analyses of these antigens as well as the enzymes involved in their
biosynthesis would provide the information needed to design agents
able to target such antigens. A great opportunity presently exists for
a structural biologist to immediately come and lead one or more
structural projects in this research area of our laboratory. A
postdoctoral position is available for a recent Ph.D. graduate
(2002-present) with a practical knowledge of NMR methods or X-ray
crystallography. The work will be carried out in the Division of
Molecular and Structural Biology at the Ontario Cancer Institute in
collaboration with Dr. Mitsu Ikura's group (protein NMR). The division
includes several structural biology groups (Drs. Cheryl Arrowsmith,
Mitsu Ikura, David Rose, Emil Pai, Al Edwards, Gil Prive, Peter
Ottensmeyer, and myself) and is well equipped for NMR, X-ray
diffraction and electron microscopy methods. The position is opened to
candidates from all countries. Applicants should send their curriculum
vitae with a covering letter stating their research interests as well
as the name and address of two individuals that could act as referees.
