In April of this year I bought an Nec Ready 9945. It had a lot of software and some very nice features to it. One of the features that caught my eye was the 120MB Superdisk. It was clearly indicated on the box. In the Windows Start menu there is a shortcut for Superdisk Utilities. In Windows Explorer there is a folder labeled Imation that contains everything needed to operate the Superdisk feature. Yet when I tried to use it, I couldn't. I tried NEC's online help. I tried the chat room and the message board and each time I got a different answer. It was getting quite confusing not to mention frustrating. It seems to me like their technical support department is VERY undermanned. I took it to Comp USA in Reno where I had bought it and they found that the A drive that was installed did NOT support the Superdisk feature. Furthermore they were told by NEC that the Ready 9945 wasn't supposed to have that feature. Most every Pentium 2 has the feature but a Pentium 3 isn't supposed too? Talk about an insult to your intelligence! I tried contacting them by e-mail and I got no response. In July I sent all the necessary documentation to the Better Business Bureau. I finally got a response from BBB about 2 weeks ago and they said they tried contacting NEC and they got no response. The product I feel is very good but it's clear to see that NEC utilizes POOR & UNETHICAL business practices. I thought there were laws against this sort of thing but apparently they can get away with it. It's also clear to see that their technical support isn't as supportive as they make it seem. NEC stands for not even close to a brand I would want to buy again. So, do you still want to buy one? Contact me if you have questions.
