Since then he has enjoyed relatively good health until the summer of 2000--he suffered a heart attack and congestive heart failure resulting from atrial fibrillation. To care for the atrial fibrillation, my father's cardiologist prescribed him an antiarrhythmic drug called Cordarone (amiodarone). A few weeks later, the arrhythmia subsided however new symptoms developed. My parents thought the Parkinson's symptoms were intensifying at an alarming rate. Two months later, dad's Parkinson's specialist encountered another patient with almost identical symptoms after suffering congestive heart failure. Sure enough, this patient was prescribed amiodarone. Please note that I have the utmost respect for my father's doctors.
