[Moderator's note: Replies set to sender - JN]

I would like to thank all of those who have responded to my earlier
request for information on teaching loads in Canadian Universities. I've
received about 20 replies. Some of the answers are as I expected and
some are not. I'm still collating the replies and I will post a summary
of them all as soon as I can.

If the thought that someone else down the hall would likely respond
deterred you, then here is a list of the depts and institutions from whom
I've heard. I would still like to hear from others and to get a better
representation from across the country if I could. I've not heard from
any other Biochemistry departments and since that's where I'm located, I'd
particularly like to get some data from that source.

Another copy of my list of questions is appended.

Again, my thanks to those who have already contributed and in advance to
those who respond to this posting/mailing.

What I wanted to know:

I wonder if I might use the auspices of this newsgroup to conduct a quick
and informal survey on teaching loads in Biochemistry/Biology/Biological
Science/Microbiology etc departments in Canadian Universities. I'm
interested in the balance of teaching vs research and I'm interested both
in actual as well as desirable loads.

What department are you in?

What faculty are you in (particularly if its Science or Medicine)

What is your assigned teaching load?
	(i.e.number of courses per semester/year
	     number of lectures per course
number of laboratory sections per week per course
Ideally, I'd also like a total number of student contact hours per
semester if you know or can calculate that.)

What value is assigned to teaching laboratory sections compared with
teaching lecture sections in your department/faculty/institution?

What do you think is a reasonable teaching load in order to be able to
maintain a research program?
	(Please be critical and honest;
my starting assumption is that both are required in a University)

Apologies in advance for any poorly designed questions.

Please email your replies.

Dear Fellow Web users,

Once again the extensive Virology, Microbiology and Immunology resource
site "All the Virology on the WWW" has been updated. This site can be
found at:

        http://www.tulane.edu/~dmsander/garryfavweb.html

While a new format allows for rapid access to specific information, this
latest update also includes very comprehensive lists of Microbiology and
Virology Departments in the U.S. and abroad, Government sites,
Medical/Biological Journals as well as specific virology research sites and
labs.

If you know of or manage a WWW site that isn't yet listed at this site,
please submit it using our new site submission page:

        http://www.tulane.edu/~dmsander/garryfavwebadd.html

Thanks again for your support!
