Software developed for the Maize Mapping Project is available as
open-source utilities, on CD (available from Coe) or by download from
http://www.maizemap.org/bioinformatics.htm. The utilities were designed
to function transposably among laboratories and among organisms.
Particular interest has been shown in the following specific components
among those that are available:

LIMS, the laboratory information management system, provides forms for
entry of multiple types of primer and mapping data with self-checks for
accuracy. It also provides for compilation and exchange of data among
participating laboratories, for project tracking, and for export to
displays in Web-based applications (Sanchez-Villeda et al.,
Bioinformatics 19:2022-2030, 2003).

iMap, the Integrated Map application (see functions at
http://www.maizemap.org/iMapDB/iMap.html) displays genetic maps with
anchored BAC contigs, and accesses all associated data online (Fang et
al., Bioinformatics 19:2105-2111, 2003).

CIMDE, the Community IBM Map Data Entry tool (see functions at
http://www.maizemap.org/CIMDE/cIBMmap.htm) provides for online
submission of mapping data by individuals, processing by MapMaker with
prior markers, and return of map locations.
