Job No. 994898

Appointed Position
Job Title: Research Associate
Department: Arizona Cancer Center
 Salary range: $26,000 - $28,000
 Benefits: Yes
Hours: 40 per week
Opening: 5/24/00
Closing: Open until filled

          Position Summary:

          A post-docotoral fellowship relating to
peptide chemistry is available to conduct research in
an immunology laboratory. We are identifying peptides
and peptide analogs from combinatorial libraries with
constrained structures that fit various MHC motifs.
The peptides will be tested for the ability to bind to
MHC and also to trigger T cells via the T cell
receptor in cancer and autoimmunity models. The goal
of this research is to identify and develop peptide
analogs that stimulate anti-tumor T cells as well as
peptide analogs that suppress autoimmune T cell
function in autoimmunity models. Structure-fuction
relationships of peptide analogs will allow us to
better understand T cell responses.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct research relating to petide synthesis and
characterize novel peptides and peptide analogs.
Perform systheses of peptides and peptide analogs.
Participate in preliminary testing of peptides and
peptide analogs. Submit manuscripts for publication to
appropriate scientific, peer-reviewed journals.
Participate in grant renewals and resubmissions.
Provide assistance in training of staff and graduate
students.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology,
Immunology, or Pharmacology.

 Preferred Qualifications:

Individuals who possess experience in peptide
chemistry and small molecules synthesis with a strong
interest in immunology who also possess effective
communications skills will be given preference.

To apply, please submit cover letter, cv and two
letters of reference to:

Computational Chemists,

Next summer, the Computers in Chemistry Division (COMP) will be
holding the second annual Symposium on Emerging Technologies.
The symposium will be at the American Chemical Society National
Meeting, Chicago, Illinois, USA, August 26-30, 2001.

A $1000 prize, kindly sponsored by Schrodinger, Inc., will be
to be presented for the best talk at the symposium.

You are invited to participate. The talks will be evaluated by
a Panel of Experts based on the impact the research will have on
the future of computational chemistry and allied sciences. The
symposium will be ideal for presenting your latest and best
methodological advances.

To participate, e-mail a 1000-word (text-only) abstract to me
no later than March 1, 2001. The talks must be original and not
be repeats of talks at other ACS symposia.

Sincerely, Don

Apologies for multiple-list posting...

It has been two years since the last big pharmacophore symposium and
there are new developments and success stories out there. We will organize
the papers with respect to applications, success stories, new approaches, as
well as "creative use of pharmacophores," provided we can populate each
category with enough papers. We will have a PC projector at each session; so
don't hold back any of your colorful pharmacophore models. This is a great
forum for you to share your experiences with scientists in your field, and
benefit from others' experiences at the same time. You are likely to return
home with several fresh ideas to apply to your research projects. Besides,
first week of April in San Diego?.. can't possibly get any better than this.
Help us make this symposium a memorable event by contributing with your
recent work in this area. Thx...Osman

ADVANCES IN 3D SEARCHING AND PHARMACOPHORES

Sponsored by the Chemical Information Division (CINF)
Co-sponsored by Division of Medicinal Chemistry (MEDI)
        and Computers in Chemistry (COMP)

The symposium will be on recent advances in 3D searching and
pharmacophore development technologies as well as experiences in using these
technologies in drug discovery and design.

Please use the OASys to submit your abstract. You can access the
CINF symposia at OASys via <http://oasys.acs.org/acs/221nm/cinf/papers/index.cgi>.
