US/TX Postdoctoral Position in Protein Crystallography of P450s

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in X-ray
crystallography at the University of Texas Medical Branch. The position is
available for applicants with research experience in either protein
crystallography, who want to gain experience in crystallization of membrane
proteins, or those with experience in biochemistry, who want to learn
protein crystallography. The project will focus on improvement of the
quality of the crystals of three membrane-bound cytochromes P450 (P450 7A1,
27A1 and 11A1) followed by determination of their structures. P450s 7A1 and
27A1 play key roles in degradation of cholesterol to bile acids, the major
pathway of cholesterol disposal from the body, whereas P450 11A1 catalyses
the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone, the first and rate limiting
step in steroid hormone biosynthesis. Expression, purification and
crystallization of P450s will be carried out in the laboratory of Irina
Pikuleva (http://www2.utmb.edu/phtox/facres/pikuleva/index.htm). Analysis of
crystals, data processing, phase determination, model building and protein
structure refinement will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Robert
O. Fox (http://www.hbcg.utmb.edu/faculty/fox/index.html), the Director of
the X-ray Crystallography Center at UTMB (http://www.hbcg.utmb.edu/xray/).
X-ray and computational facilities include a MacScience imaging plate
detector, a Siemens 2K CCD detector, two rotating anode X-ray generators,
and access to a MAD beamline at the CAMD synchrotron, SGI computers and
graphic workstations, and a Cray J90 supercomputer. Initial appointment is
for one year and then renewable. Salary is competitive and based on the NIH
guidelines. UTMB is located at Galveston Island, 2 miles off the Texas
mainland and 50 miles southeast of Houston. UTMB is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action employer, M/F/D/V.

Please submit CV and contact information for three references to: Dr. I.
Pikuleva, Dept. of Pharmacology & Toxicology, University of Texas Medical
Branch, 301 University Blvd., Galveston, TX 77555-1031, USA. Phone

Do you have a Ph.D. with a focus in dermatology or Vitamin D biochemistry?
Does the thought of working on a world-class team actively developing
cutting-edge therapeutics for psoriasis, acne and photo-aging with a
particular emphasis on Vitamin D metabolic pathways appeal to you? Are you
interested in working with industry, but want to keep your status within the
scientific community? If so, this position will be of interest to you.

My client is a rapidly growing biotechnology company involved in the
discovery of small molecule therapeutic agents targeting a physiologically
important class of enzymes known as cytochrome P450s. They are currently
seeking creative, innovative research scientists with a background in
dermatology or Vitamin D biochemistry to join their dermatology team in
Toronto.

You will participate in the development of novel therapeutics in dermatology
with particular emphasis on vitamin D metabolic pathways. This may include
pre-clinical testing of proprietary drugs using in vitro assays and the
development of functional assays.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D in a relevant discipline, and will
have demonstrated expertise in Vitamin D biochemistry or dermatology
(psoriasis, ketatinocytes) as well as a passion for continuously seeking out
new and innovative technologies. Experience in the pharmaceutical or
biotechnology industry and previous supervisory experiences are assets.

In return for your skills and expertise you will receive an above industry
average salary and benefits package as well as a stock option plan. The work
environment is challenging and stimulating and both team and
individual accomplishments are rewarded. You will also have the opportunity
to be involved in discovery research - from discovery right through to
product development. And you will have the opportunity to remain active in
scientific research community - publication is encouraged by the employer.
Relocation expenses are also provided.

Pertinent Domain Info

Dear Internet User:

The three new Internet domain extensions: .NAME .BIZ .INFO . have now been officially launched on the Internet. However, many users are still unfamiliar with how these names work. The following are some tips on what these names are and where you can register.

==============
NAME Extension
==============
- Currently in pre-registration stage.
- Designed for personal use.
- 2-level domain format (eg. FirstName.LastName.name)
- Used for web URL (www.FirstName.Lastname.name) or email (FirstName@LastName.name)
- Registry accepts submissions once a week, first come first serve basis.
- Where to pre-register:  http://www.namesforeveryone.com.

==============
BIZ Extension
==============
- Currently operational.
- Designed for business use.
- No registration restrictions.
- Works just like a .COM name
- Where to register:  http://www.dotbiztoday.com

==============
INFO Extension
==============
- Currently operational.
- Designed for information on products / organizations
- No registration restrictions
- Works just like a .COM name
- Where to register:  http://www.infograb.com

Over one million of the above extensions have already been registered by other users. Therefore, if your name is still available, you should secure it immediately to avoid possible disputes.

Yours truly,
