draw five vertical lines on the paper. Label them year zero, 20, 40
60 and 80. My assumptions are almost the same. One child at the age
of 20, only my age limit is 80.

At year zero there is no population to keep this simple. By miracle,
four males and four females appear. so at year zero there are eight
people.

Twenty years later there are two males and two females born. the
people alive at twenty years is 12.

Another twenty years later there are one male and one female born.
This is year 40 and people alive is 14.

Twenty years later is one more child born, gender is immaterial.
People alive number 15.

Year 80 people start dying off. From 15 to 7. And so on.

It takes a long time before one child family will make an effect. It
depends on the age of reproduction and the age of life expectancy.

Generally there are two factors involved. First the rapid doubling time of
population in the southern hemisphere at about 27 years and the slower
doubling time in the northern hemisphere of generally 100 years. movement
from south to north will create tensions. Secondly the general increase in
global population is not accepted as all the vested interests talk about
growth. So continued growth on a 'golf ball' will again lead to tensions,
overcrowding and conflict. This is really head in the sand stuff that, to
me, has only one innevitible outcome as you describe. Depressing is it not?
I think I will go for a cup of coffee while I can.

I would like someone to tell me what factors determine
population size for a group of predators. Obviously
prey/food is the major factor, but when food is the only
limiting factor for non-predators (deer in the Northeastern
U.S. e.g.) their population becomes very unhealthy.
