Part One
Sexual behavior is a good ice-breaker for a discussion of human
population growth.
It takes only a few months to make a baby and years to raise,
but your neighbors' behavior is half the battle too. Will they
over-populate
the planet? ( It is never _your_ children who over-populate.)

We know that fetishes for cosmetic traits influence sexual selection and

behavior. Certainly homosexuality, if encouraged, reduces the number of
behaviors
which would by chance lead to conceiving children. If encouraged, will
this strategy prevent over-population? I'm not so sure that is a good
reason for doing it. After all, we don't really want to presume that
homosexuals won't or shouldn't reproduce, and besides, natural selection

would then fill the gap with someone else's busily reproducing.

Domestic instincts are not inherited habits in tumbler pigeons, Darwin
observed.
However, Darwin and biology allow that the human mind is able to cause
habits to be inherited, in a way, through the perpetuation of external
programs. Rather than or along with sexual behaviors,
we really must aim higher for solutions to looming population surpluses.

We ought to try for an age of high-minded-ness. Practical,
appreciative and diverse, this world would find intelligence where it
has been over-looked. The rainforest has undiscovered pharmaceuticals,
and persons have far horizons for one another to explore.

Part Two
It is fair to credit Western Civilization with discovering
much of modern life's greatest conveniences. But as Ian McHarg wrote,
"The supremacy of modern over primitive man is the inheritance of the
tools, information
and powers from his predecessors. While there are a few exceptions,
'wild nature'
seldom provides an ideal environment and those who live in primitive
societies are susceptible to disease, suffer from a short life-span and
are vulnerable to extremes of heat and cold, drought, starvation and
exposure. They often suffer from fears and superstitions, but they have
frequently acquired an astonishing empirical knowledge of their
environment, its creatures and their processes. This is absorbed into
religion or superstitions. Indeed it might well be said that their
success, their adaptation, is precisely this understanding. Societies
that sustained themselves for these many millennia are testimony to this
understanding; it is indeed the best evidence in support of brain, the
presumptive manager of the biosphere." That was by Ian L. McHarg.

The point here is to remember that instinct is not going to take us
through. High-minded-ness
is the key to the future. Human beings might not all partake, but
surely every tribe on Earth
has members who can.

Conclusion
So what is high-minded-ness? In biology, it might include knowing what
behaviors
we derive from our natural history and endeavoring to live more fully
those which we
decide are worthwhile.

There has never been a proper science of human history because
our events proceeded from erroneous thinking as much as from
mechanics.
(Science looks for mechanics.)

>From an angel's eye view, data flowed quite incoherently through
populations
and events 'til recent times, and still is fairly incoherent.

The highest thinkers (ie. those most respectful of logical fallacies)
are most altruistic, if not always pragmatic.
However, they are far outnumbered by the middlemen ( and women)
whose petty grievances, banal patter, and seeming hormones of envy
seem to themselves and to a plurality of information consumers more
valid than
algebra.

More soon.

Dear Reader,
I only plan to post a total of four messages to this group in the month
following my first post. I would like to have a radio talk show but
since I don't,
the BIONET is even better in some ways. Even if only the computers
are reading it.

In http://www.bio.net/hypermail/pop-bio/pop-bio.199907/0002.html
somebody named treetop@newsguy.com
called me a leftist, and he meant that
"in a bad way." I am not.
That kind of discourtesy
seems to mark the people
who actually know the least.
( BTW, I like some leftists but loathe others.
I am in fact a competent thinker, not an ideologue at all.)

Treetop's rhetorical style is not atypical of
radio talk shows, and like them, seldom do
intelligent people reply.
 treetop@newsguy.com apparently
could not even discuss a technical issue
such as biology, psychology, or economics
except to chant some anti-Constitutional
dogma and do some name calling.
Could not even quote me accurately. He or she quotes
several writers and implies I am all the speakers.
(Could be a major-league media person?)
I never saw that post until today.

I am sorry if  the following is not  entertaining;
the angel-eye view is not included this time.
But you can see this forest _and_ the trees
in your mind's best theater of imagination
if you will take ten minutes.

Gordon Liddy today envisioned something like a big picture
debate between scientists and "A group" Jesuits.
Ego should not get involved. We humans are real beginners
in the thinking department. There's a lot more to it all . . .

These are questions from a moderator to each panel:

1) Do they primarily defend their current world views
or dare to outline scenarios for a much better understanding
in future? Why? If the former, how could they dare in light
of the embarrassing facts?

2) If each group admits its history is full of errors later corrected,
in what degree would they say that its current world view is like a
temporary
shelter pending the construction of a better version?

3) Though science or religion seem _not ever_ to
be free from value judgments, to what extent should
the _evaluation processes_ of religion or science proceed
without applying the traditions of that system, until the
big picture emerges.

4) What provision is made for the questions of individuals who are
not high in the hierarchy of your system?

As a moderator, I would not let them wander far from these questions.
I am sorry this was not more entertaining for you.

Here's what our customers say...

Testimonial # 1 - I knew having a merchant account would
increase my sales, But never thought it would be so great.
In addition in being able to take major credit cards, I can
also do real time credit card processing on the internet and
receive orders while I am Sleeping. It's awesome! I encourage
every serious business owner to get one. Thanks. M.B./MI

Testimonial # 2 - " Being a home based business owner, no
one would approve me, until this came my way. I am more
than grateful. Within 10 days I had my merchant account
set up. I am more than pleased with the 24 hr. customer
service. My business has sky rocketed because I now can
accept credit card orders. " Oscar/FL
