Department of Biology
Postdoctoral Position in the Schistosomiasis Research Group
Molecular Biologist/Immunologist

Applications are invited for a 3-year post-doctoral position funded by the
European Commissionís INCO-DEV Programme, involving collaboration with
Prof. E Beck's laboratory in Giessen, Germany.

The aim is to use molecular biological techniques which will permit the
cloning and expression of T cell antigens that are relevant to the
protective immunity elicited in rodent hosts by the radiation-attenuated
schistosome vaccine. The approach uses a T cell selection system for
screening purposes to identify novel vaccine candidates.

The successful applicant will have expertise in molecular biology which
they wish to apply in an immunological context, or will be a cellular
immunologist who wishes to enhance their molecular biology skills.

Starting alary is on the RA 1A scale, from £16287 to £21597 p.a., according
to experience.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor R A Wilson, Tel: 01904 432830;
email: HYPERLINK mailto:raw3@york.ac.uk raw3@york.ac.uk

Advertised in Nature and New Scientist for March 30th; closing date April
20th 2000.

Dear Madam, Sir,

Being a biology student at the University of Geneva, I am presently working
on a
degree (diplôme) in bacteriology at the University Hospital of Geneva, in
the Department of Infectious Diseases. I am also taking a certificate in
microbiology and parasitology (IIIrd degree certificate).
Within this framework, schistosomiasis is the subject of my thesis.

I therefore take the liberty of writing to request your kind assistance
with any documentation, previous studies, articles, theses or other forms
of material on the subject, persons to interview, a.o. and I would be most
grateful if you could grant me some access to the vast pool of knowledge
and information within your organisation.

Sincerely,

Olivia Brandès

		1 Postdoctoral position
		1 Technician
		1 PhD position.

Three positions are available (each for three years) to study epidermal
development in parasitic nematodes and C.elegans. The project will identify
and characterise key transcriptional regulators controlling hypodermal
differentiation and use C.elegans as a heterologous system to study
parasite gene function.

Candidates for the postdoctoral and technical posts should have a solid
background in molecular biology and a knowledge of genetics would be an
advantage.

Candidates for the studentship should have an 1st or upper second class
honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject.
