Dear Parasitologist,
Please find attached the much anticipated, eagerly awaited Registration and
Call for papers brochure for the joint meeting of the 8th International
Coccidiosis Conference and the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian
Society for Parasitology ! The Conference will be held at the Novotel Palm
Cove Resort, near Cairns, Australia from July 9-13, 2001. The brochure is
attached as a PDF document; please read it carefully, then print out the
Registration and Accommodation Form, complete the form, sign it and POST it
back to me. Electronic registration will not be accepted. If you have
any difficulties downloading and /or printing the PDF document please
consult the Conference Website
(http://www.science.uts.edu.au/depts/cmb/mpu/conference.html), where a copy
of the brochure will appear very soon, and print a copy from there. If
this also proves difficult for you, please write to me requesting a
hardcopy. (Please note that all Australian Society for Parasitology
members will receive a hardcopy of the brochure by mail). The Website
will also be the place to watch for program updates and any other news
about the meeting over the coming months.
We are looking forward very much to seeing you all in Cairns next July.
On behalf of the Organising Committee,
Best wishes,
Nick Smith

Dear Parasitologist,
A small error in the Registration brochure has been pointed out to me :
within the text, early registration is quoted at AU$490 and registration
after Feb 28 is quoted at AU$590, however, in the Registration Form itself,
the fees are AU$495 and AU$595, respectively. To clear up the confusion,
THE FEES IN THE REGISTRATION FORM ARE CORRECT.
I apologise for this hiccup !
Nick

Dear Colleagues,
Alan Johnson and I have been fortunate to be awarded an Australian Research
Council grant and, as a result, have an exciting opportunity for a
postdoctoral research fellow in molecular parasitology. If you know of
anyone who may be interested in this position please pass this information
on to them.
Many thanks,
Cheers,

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
Molecular Parasitology Unit
Faculty of Science
The Molecular Parasitology Unit is a Key Research Strength of the
University of Technology, Sydney. The focus of the Unit is the study of
the molecular basis of the host/parasite relationship, with emphasis on the
Apicomplexa, a group of protozoa responsible for some of the world's most
serious parasitic diseases including malaria, toxoplasmosis, neosporosis
and coccidiosis. Research is undertaken in several fields including
immunology, stage differentiation and virulence, drug resistance,
development of novel vaccines and drugs, and bioinformatics. For more
information about the Molecular Parasitology Unit please visit :
http://www.science.uts.edu.au/depts/cmb/MPUcover.html.
A position is available in the Unit for a Postdoctoral Fellow with a PhD
and research background in molecular biology. Experience with protozoan
parasites, particularly those within the Phylum Apicomplexa is highly
desirable. A strong research profile, as evidenced by publications in
recognised journals and presentations at scientific conferences, is also
desirable.

The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research on the
heat shock proteins of Toxoplasma gondii and the immune response of the
host to this parasite. The position is for a fixed term of 3 years, funded
by the Australian Research Council, and is available from February 1, 2001.

Salary range : $44,743-54,347 pa. The University offers a wide-ranging
salary packaging scheme to all staff plus attractive superannuation..
