Research efforts to study these species, and to find cures for their infections, have shown that they possess characteristics distinctly different from the more commonly studied enterobacterium, E. coli, which is often used as a model for gram-negative bacteria. With these differences in mind, and the specific needs of Pseudomonas clinicians and basic scientists, a newsgroup is being created to address these needs and to facilitate the sharing of information on many levels. Functions of the Pseudomonas newsgroup will be: 1) to facilitate the sharing of protocols, strains and plasmids developed specifically for Pseudomonas species. 2) to announce upcoming meetings. 3) to provide a forum for trouble-shooting difficulties encountered in the lab. 4) to create opportunities for collaborative efforts between labs and sharing of published and preliminary results. 5) to inform the community of Pseudomonas researchers and clinicians of progress in vaccine development and the treatment of Pseudomonas infections. 6) to serve as a source for computer-related services useful to Pseudomonas researchers, such as codonfrequency tables, protein-alignment programs, etc. The newsgroup will be unmoderated.
