A Laboratory/research technician position is available starting summer=20=
or fall 2007 in the Keiko Torii lab at the University of Washington=20
(http://faculty.washington.edu/ktorii). A successful applicant will=20
assist our ongoing genetic screen for stomatal patterning mutants,=20
Map-based cloning of causal genes, plasmid construction, generation and=20=
selection of transgenic plants, genetic crosses, and phenotypic=20
characterization of the mutants/transgenic plants.
The applicants must be meticulous, highly organized, motivated, can=20
work independently as well as a team, and must like to take care of=20
plants on a daily basis. The duty includes soiling and watering=20
Arabidopsis, maintenance of oligonucleotide/plasmid database and seed=20
stock inventory in the Torii lab, and training of undergraduate lab=20
assistants. A previous experience as undergraduate lab aides is=20
required, and experience in PCR and DNA-gel analysis is preferred.
The position is secured for one year, with additional 1~2 years of=20
extension based on the performance and funding availability. =20
Therefore, the position is highly suited for recent college graduates=20
who wish to have strong research experience before heading onto the=20
graduate career in related disciplines. The Torii lab provides a=20
vigorous research training in the highly visible research area, and our=20=
former/current technicians have first-authored and/or co-authored=20
research manuscripts in first-rate journals, including Nature,=20
Development, Developmental Biology, and Plant Physiology.
This is a full-time position with benefit, including medical insurance=20=
and retirement, according to the University of Washington guidelines. =20=
