The zero point on the acedb physical map of chromosome X, and of all other chromosomes, is completely arbitrary. It is a historic consequence of where some fragment of the map was started. The estimated size of X from the physical map is about 18 Mb. Next summer we should be able to give you a much more accurate estimate based on the sequence. Richard
