It seems that the file wspec/server.wrm is badly configured
with the code 4_5 you need in that file a line
WRITE_ACCESS_DIRECTORY /disk3/people/epstein/lock
READ_ACCESS_DIRECTORY PUBLIC

if you wish every body to read or

READ_ACCESS_DIRECTORY /disk3/people/epstein/lock

to stay private

may be you should recompile the client, since you recompiled anyway the
big server code
