More Industry Professionals Obtaining Up-to-the-Minute News From
VerticalNet's BioResearch Online http://www.bioresearchonline.com Orlando,
FL (PittCon 1999) -
Recent data shows that an increasing number of
professionals in the biotechnology and life sciences fields are turning to
VerticalNet, Inc.'s BioResearch Online (http://www.bioresearchonline.com) for
useful and timely information on their industy. Many laboratory directors
and managers, researchers, scientists, university faculty members,
biochemists, molecular and cell biologists, and immunologists view the online
community as a valuable resource to learn of the most recent developments in
the bioresearch industry.
Since its launch last September, BioResearch Online has experienced
significant user session growth. The growth can be attributed to BioResearch
Online's ability to provide up-to-the minute news and information in real
time on such vital topics as laboratory systems and chemicals, molecular and
cell biology, pipettors, assay instruments, genetic sequencing,
immunochemicals, enzymes, and hardware and software systems. There also was a
significant increase in page views during the same time period. Professionals
from a number of leading life science companies, including Eli Lilly,
Monsanto, NIH, and Harvard, frequent the site.
Examples of BioResearch Online's timeliness are the hourly updates of the
site's "front page news." Daily updates are also conducted, and during the
week of March 7-12, the daily updates will be published directly from PittCon
in Orlando, FL. These bulletins will include information on new products and
services being introduced on the show floor. (more) BioResearch Online
includes online directories that allow visitors to select product categories
from the most up-to-date and complete list of products and suppliers.
Community forums provide professionals with an opportunity to share thoughts
with, and ask questions of, some of the most knowledgeable and interesting
people in the industry. The forums and discussion groups also foster a
focused environment for buyers and sellers to communicate and engage in
commerce.
The managing editor of BioResearch Online, Angelo DePalma, has a PhD in
organic chemistry and has been in the life science field for 20 years. This
knowledge of the industry enables him to present information in a useful,
informative, and technically-sound manner. DePalma's impressive background
includes a senior scientist position at Schering-Plough, where he worked on
radiolabeled drugs for metabolism studies. DePalma also was a science editor
for book publisher John Wiley and Sons.
The popularity of BioResearch Online is in line with the favorable response
garnered by all of VerticalNet's vertical trade communities. The company
recently had one of NASDAQ's most successful IPO's, with its shares selling
more than twice over on the first day of trading.
VerticalNet (www.verticalnet.com, NASDAQ: VERT), founded in August, 1995, is
