We used to use RPC for the client/server and these programs were called
aceserver, gifaceserver, aceclient. Jean and I wrote replacements for these that
use sockets instead, the programs are called saceserver, sgifaceserver and
saceclient ("s" for socket).
The current version of acedb is 4_9a and this only has the socket versions of
the server. You should be able to use this with xinetd, bearing in mind my
comments on an earlier thread on this subject in this newsgroup. The latest
advice from the xinetd people is that you should use at least xinetd 2.3.0.
If you have problems with xinetd 2.3.0 please let me know, as soon as I get our
linux system updated with the latest xinetd I will post here (and also include
in the documentation) instructions on what to put in xinetds configuration file.
cheers Ed
