Floating Old-growth Islands

I am starting to do study on the modelling of floating islands of
old-growth with respect to timber supply planning and harvest scheduling
problems.  The idea is that the old-growth island floats around the
landscape as the surrounding forest is harvested, thereby providing a
more-or-less constant area of old-growth habitat. Does anyone know of
_any_ studies which even remotely relate to this subject?
