The organizers have succeeded in putting together a very interesting
and exciting program where politicians, decision makers and scientists
will share information and expertise, construct solutions and celebrate
recent successes.

The conference delves into the ecology and economics of protected areas
with a series of papers delivered from leading scientists in the field.
Representatives from the IUCN, the World Bank, the scientific community,
environmental organizations, and the private sector will provide global,
national, and provincial perspectives.

The conference will be attended by the Honourable Brian Tobin,
Canada's Minister of Fisheries and Ocean who will talk on the
socioeconomic costs of ecological problems as illustrated by
the coastal fisheries issue. At the provincial level,
the premier of British Columbia, Mike Harcourt, and the premier of
Alberta, Ralph Klein, will present keynote addresses.
