Don't you think a caution is warrented with regarded to
the APAR productivity relationship? In Larcher's most recent text, there
is an excellent graph of total photosynthesis vs. productivity and there
are four separate lines. As a physiologist, I am not happy with this
simple Monteith approach to green plants. As a first approximation it
works, especially in crops and in young forest plantations. However, I
can get just as good a relationship between productivity and
transpiration as one can get between APAR (or IPAR) and productivity. Tom
