[VIPS] Ideotype question (fwd)

I'd be very interested to see what is the difference between ideotypes
for trees grown in single-tree plots without competition and those
grown in a monoculture plantation with crown closure after ~2 years
of growth.  In what ways are these ideotypes different, and how might
these differences lead us to make poor selections based on 2-yr
seedling performance at relatively wide spacing (the way things are
generally done)?
