Could you mean the Golden-Rain-Tree, Koelreuteria paniculata?
It is in the Sapindaceae also known as Pride of India or China-Tree.
It fits your description.  There are three species in the genus, so
I'm not certain on the 'paniculata' for your specific request.
We grow this in our garden.
