Chemical vs. Mechanical Site Prep

Fellow Foresters:
I am interested in any URL's or FTP's   on Chemical vs. Mechanical Site
Preparation. ROR's and soil compaction or improvement, etc. I am chiefly
interested in Southern Pines in the SE USA. I know many  large paper
companies in this area are going to chemical site prep, and I have seen
good results, but what studies are they basing this switch to chemicals 
on?
