Future directions in modeling net primary productivity
                          of forest ecosystems

A symposium to be held at the joint annual meeting of the North American
Chapter of the International Society for Ecological Modelling (ISEM) and
the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS).

                           August 3-7, 1997

                   Montreal Convention Centre
                          Montreal, Quebec

The objective of this symposium is to bring together experts involved in
modeling net primary productivity of forest ecosystems to discuss future
directions in modeling activities. Suggested, but not exclusive, topics
are:

- Effect of nutrient cycling on net primary productivity
- Forest succession
- Climate change
- Modeling techniques
- Identification of ecophysiological processes that should be better understood
- Integration of multidisciplinary approaches.

The symposium will include oral presentations by experts in the field and a
discussion session. Papers of oral presentations and a summary of the
discussions will be published together as a special issue of ECOMOD
(NA-ISEM newsletter) on the Web site. Persons interested in making an oral
presentation are invited to submit an abstract by regular mail, fax, or
E-mail no later than February 1, 1997 to:
