I would suggest a basal spray or spot treatment to control the unwanted locust. Mechanical thinning on locust is a waste of time. It will re-sprout before you can get back to the truck. I'm not sure why you need to map the location of your trees so acurately, but a laser transit would be the best tool by far for the process.
