The Environmental Impact of Timber Update.

The Timber Trade Federation's article 'Consequences' can now be viewed
on the web at
http://www.ttf.co.uk/consequences.html

The publication provides the information required to make construction
material choices based on an assessment of the environmental impact
throughout the seven stages of the life cycle.

Namely:

Resource Base
Extraction
Processing
Transport
Installation
Performance
Disposal

'Consequences' compares the environmental impact of manufacturing and
building with timber against materials such as plastic, steel, concrete
and aluminium.

Did you know that many fire doors are made from timber?

Did you know that a 2.5cm timber board has better thermal resistance
than a 11.4cm brick wall?

Did you know that 25-30% of municipal waste is plastic, which will
remain in its original form for 500 years?

Did you know that concrete accounts for 53% of the volume in demolition
waste in North America?
