                    $125,000 AVAILABLE FOR PROJECTS
               FULL PROPOSALS DUE: MARCH 26, 1998, 3 PM

          OPTIONAL PRE-PROPOSALS DUE: JANUARY 28, 1998, 3 PM

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) will 
provide up to 50% funding for organizations that develop innovative 
biotechnology products, components, and processes.

NYSERDA will make multiple awards up to a maximum of $50,000 in NYSERDA funds 
per project. Proposers are encouraged to seek additional assistance. For 
example, multiple awards up to $50,000 in additional technical support
services 
are available from Cornell's Center for Advanced Technology in
Biotechnology.  
You are invited to submit a proposal in accordance with the requirements of
this
solicitation:

     Collaborative teams must have at least one significant New York State 
partner, and a significant (greater than 50%) portion of the work must be 
conducted within New York State. 
     All projects must be cost-shared; at least 50% co-funding is required.
     The proposed activities must be innovative.
     The proposed technology must provide measurable economic, energy, and 
environmental benefits.

Prospective proposers are encouraged to fax a short pre-proposal to Judy 
Jarnefeld at (518) 862-1091 by January 28, 1998 to receive feedback on their 
project concepts before full proposals are due. Faxed full proposals will
not be
accepted.
