Some interesting figures from the book.  

Nearly 490 million acres are owned and managed by nonfederal entities.
Including 9,000,000 citizens who own less than 100 acres.

About 75% of the nonfederal forests are located in the east. Four out of
ten arcres are in the South, about one-third in the North with the rest
across the west.

State forestry agencies invest nearly $1.1 billion annually, the largest
(65% or so) to fire managment activities.
