	Interest by private landowners in income opportunities based on
the use of natural resources continues to increase. Wise management and
business decisions must be based on the best possible information available.
This 3-day conference is designed to help agricultural and natural resources
professionals, as well as private landowners, achieve an understanding of how
to choose and manage a private land income opportunity while protecting natural
resources and minimizing personal liability and financial risk. This conference
is for woodland owners, farmers, and other private landowners; consultants;
industrial foresters; state foresters; wildlife biologists; Extension agents;
planners; farm bureaus; land trusts; woodland owner associations; and
legislators. The conference qualifies for 13 Category One continuing education
credits with the Society of American Foresters.
          Over 35 speakers from the eastern US will share their expertise
and answer questions on many aspects of developing income opportunities on
private lands. The speakers include landowners, consultants, Cooperative
Extension staff, economists, business management specialists, researchers,
foresters, and lawyers. Timber management, hunting leases, ginseng growing,
biking, horseback riding, nature walks, fishing, and recreational clubs are
some of the income-generating opportunities that will be discussed. Speakers
also explore areas of uncertainty that may prevent landowners from developing
natural resources on their property, such as questions of liability,
insurance, marketing,  entrepreneurial skills, or potential impact of
development on natural resources.

	The conference registration fee is $95 in U.S. funds if
postmarked on or before March 16, 1998. If postmarked after March 16 or for
walk-ins, the fee is $115. The fee includes admission to all conference
presentations and events, plus two lunches, two dinners, break refreshments,
and a copy of the conference proceedings. Single-day registration for the

            The conference will be held at the Ramada Inn Convention Center
in Hagerstown, Maryland. Hagerstown is conveniently located near Interstates
70 and 81 in western Maryland. The Ramada Inn provides a shuttle service
from the Washington County Regional Airport which is accessible by USAir
flights. A block of rooms has been reserved at a special rate of $55 for
a single, double, triple, or quad room. In order to receive the conference
