Make no mistake, that it was NOT merely the convenience of train travel that
slaughtered the Buffalo, but a concerted effort at genocide -- the destruction
of Native Americans that relied on the Buffalo!

Perhaps, in today's society if the White Male DEPENDED on old growth trees for
survival, it would be politically correct to burn down all mature standing
timber and there wouldn't be such a strong emotional empathy toward the
national forests.
