Directions and Implementation

Dear Colleague:

Slocan Forest Products (Slocan Division) in conjunction with other licensees
and stakeholders will be sponsoring a conference in Nelson, British
Columbia, Canada,  from 26-28 October, 1998 entitled Ecosystem Management of
Forested Landscapes:  Directions and Implementation.  This conference is
intended to provide a forum for information exchange and discussion among
leading scientists, practitioners, and resource professionals across North
America.

The general theme of the conference is applied ecosystem-based forest
management in the Pacific Northwest, particularly landscape level
applications.  Session and presentation topics will include, but not limited
to, implementation strategies, sustainability, socio-economics,
certification, timber supply, landuse planning, watershed management,
case-studies, risk management, applied landscape ecology, natural
disturbance ecology, and adaptive management.  Thirty minutes will be
allotted for each presentation.  In addition, poster sessions will provide
participants with additional information on key topics.

Anyone interested in presenting a paper or poster at this conference is
encouraged to submit a title, list of authors, mailing address, phone, fax,
e-mail address, and a brief abstract no later than 30 June, 1998.  Abstracts
should be limited to 200 words.  Please indicate clearly whether the
submission is for a platform talk (paper) or poster presentation.  Abstracts
should be submitted digitally via e-mail to rdeon at netidea.com in MS Word
format.  If not possible, other forms of submission will also be accepted.

Nelson is located in the heart of British Columbia’s West Kootenay region.
The Kootenays offer a diverse mix of rugged mountainous landscapes, thriving
resource-based industries, complex social issues, and unsurpassed scenic and
recreational values.  Nelson offers direct flights to and from Vancouver
International Airport.  As well, nearby Castlegar offers airport connections
to all major locations in North America.
