I'm afraid I don't understand the FDR reference.  While FDR took us
down the road to socialism (yechh!) a ways, there was no "boom" under
his watch until WWII; then we had plenty of the other sorts of "booms"
(including 2 rather large ones at the end ;-)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the average American, by any
objective standard, about as well off (or substantially better) than
the average citizen of any other country?  Certainly, some people are
becoming exceedingly wealthy...good!  From your above post, however,
it seems you would put an emphasis on equality of outcome, a prospect
I find, frankly, repulsive.
