I have heard of people topping them 5-10 years before harvest to produce a
wider butt log, more ideal for cabinet making. Seems like a reasonable
proposition to me, but have not seen this in practice. They grow quite well
here in New Zealand. What is the timber like to work with? As hard as
european walnut?
