Silviculture is NOT genetic engineering. Silviculture, when done right, leads to
better breeding or mating of trees. This has been going on for centuries and is
very positive and creative. Genetic engineering of trees does NOT involve
breeding or mating, and has only been going on for a few years. For an excellent
explanation of the difference between engineering and breeding, see "Is Genetic
Engineering a variety of breeding?" by Dr Michael Antoniou (molecular biologist)
at http://www.psrast.org/mianbrbr.htm.

This notion that genetic engineering is just another form of breeding comes
straight out of the PR departments of Monsanto, Novartis, Astra-Zeneca, et al. It
has nothing to do with the reality of the situation, and is only designed to
confuse and mislead the public so that they will accept and buy the mutant
products of genetic engineering.
