What then are the cancers. When the cells can not become senescent what
has occurred. A gene for rapid reproduction is activated somehow and then
the cell grows without inhibition. There of course must then be control factors
of the reproduction of the cell. If it could be that the aging process is an
interaction between these control factors that are bypassed in the cancer cell
by the buildup of products to inhibit it over time then the cellular
phenotype of senescence could be explained. I do not though have evidence for
this hypothesis. I only put it forward with the hopes of criticism. Also
ot must be noted once again that the mouse when exposed to large doses of
raiation appears to age faster than normal suggesting that the link from aging
to DNA destruction is strong. I hope that studies on abnormal aging patterns
in humans and animals will lead to a better understanding of what the aging
process is really due to. Werner's syndrome has now been linked to chromosome
seven. I would love to see what the bio-chemical abnormality is!
