Collagen fibrils

I'm a BSc. student doing a 2nd year biochemistry course. Looking through
some 'model' questions in the back of my lecture book I came across a
question asking why collagen fibrils of older animals is stronger than those
of younger animals.
Looking through my notes the only information I could find was.."with aging,
covalent bonds of uncertain nature form between and within tropocollagen
units to give a very strong structure."
Is it possible anyone could build on this slightly.
Thankyou
John Scotter.
