The serpulid Ficopomatus enigmaticus (formerly known as Mercierella) can
live under very variable salinity conditions, including similar high
hypersaline values. This was regularly the case in summer in the lagoon of
Tunis (connected with the Mediterranean by a channel; N Africa), when
this species was studied there in the 60s (the lagoon has now widely been
modified and filled in).
