Culturing polychaetes w/out fresh, unfiltered seawater

When I was in graduate school we maintained Pectinaria for a
long time in aquaria with natural substrate with no
additional food. They were able to feed on the organic
content of the sediment. If your sand is sterile you will
probably have to add food of some sort, but I would suggest
grinding it up in the sand. Once we had placed the animals
in the aquarium they never revisited the surface, with only
the tip of the tube sometimes protruding.

Hope this helps.
