I don't think Geoff underestimates the potential for confusion. In the
SCAMIT species list for mega and macro invertebrates of Southern
California( marine)...there are 90 unique taxa names of the species
"californica"....there are 20 different species names "californicus"
and about 30 species names "californiensis". A few of these are
alternate spellings of genera or current synonyms, but most are not.
