Hi folks,
A couple of quick questions for you all....
1) What kind of feeding mode does Paramphinome jeffreysi use?
Different papers suggest different feeding modes. The two alternatives
being a carnivore or a sub-surface deposit feeder.
2) In one of my samples in the Faroe-Shetland Channel I found a huge
increase in the number of Spiophanes kroyeri. Depth = 800m, sediment
is quite fine, temperature is about 0oC to 0.5oC. Relatively low TOC,
organic content, heavy metals etc. Any suggestions as to why one
should suddenly see a huge increase in this species? The same pattern
is seen in both 1996 and 1998. It is also possibly at the detriment of P.
jeffreysi. Paramphinome jeffreysi is the most abundant species of
polychaete from 550 m through to 1000 m, the exception being at 800m.
Any explanations or possible theories would be most welcome.
cheers
Bhavani
