Dear Folks,
As part of an effort to survey biotic diversity in central Amazonia, a group
of multinational scientists led by Dr. James Albert (U of Florida) will submit
an NSF proposal to collect aquatic fauna in the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve in
the Peruvian Amazon. This region has been ranked as one of globally
outstanding biological distinctiveness and given the highest priority for
conservation action of freshwater ecoregions. It is expected that the project
will provide baseline data of species-level biodiversity for use in systematic
and population biology, ecology, conservation and restoration biology.
Among the proposal requirements are:
1. A list of expected annelid taxa in this region (i.e., central Amazonia).
2. Consultants who could aid in the classification of annelid specimens.
3. Appropriate museums/institutions where annelid specimens can be deposited.
If you have knowledge or information about any of these items, or would
like to get involved in this project at any level, please let me know.
