Kristian Fauchald has written the Forward and there are 75 chapters. After
dealing with the history of polychaete systematics, and things such as
collecting polychaetes and the fossil record of polychaetes, we review
basic anatomy and terminology. Then follow 72 chapters reviewing major
polychaete groups in terms of morphology, reproduction, natural history
and systematics. There are 80 plates made up of line drawings selected
from the best that have ever been published. There are also 38 plates of
SEM and LM micrographs, mostly previously unpublished. There is a
colour section with 12 pages (96 photos) of pictures of a diverse range of
polychaetes. There are also 4 (full page) paintings by Helena Samuelsson
of polychaetes (Hediste, Flabelligera, Pectinaria and Eupolymnia) that we
commissioned.
We know the price is high, but we hope that the pictures make it
worthwhile. There is some text of course..........; but we promise we didnt
write the blurb at the website. Our aim is for this book to be a
comprehensive guide for those wishing to learn about polychaete diversity,
as well as a useful source for those with a sound knowledge of
polychaetes. We have pointed out many of the areas where there are
serious gaps in our knowledge just waiting to be bridged. In other words we
want the book to be dated as soon as possible.
