The decline of Invertebrate Zoology

Dear Kirk,

I have had a grand four decades in marine science; the two quarter
invertebrate course shared by Dixy Lee and Paul Illg at the University of
Washington, open many doors while on postdocs at the University of Copenhagen,
the Millport Lab, the MBL, and in future teaching and research (with NOAA).

I weep for young scientists who know about genomes and animal tomagraphy, but
nothing of the structure of planarians and ctenophores. How could one
hypothesize using one ctenophore to eliminate another one in the Caspian,
without knowledge of their life history, feeding and reproduction!!!

Cheers at the wake, Jack Pearce, North American
