Dear All,
I have been asked by the publishers of Research Signpost to organize a
book tentatively entitled "Annelids as Model Systems in the Biological
Sciences". While we all have many other things to do, I see this as a
potential opportunity to promote annelids in science--which is becoming
increasingly dominated by the common models (e.g., Drosophila, C.
elegans, zebrafish, mice).
That said, I'm trying to get a sense of whether there is enough
interest to proceed with this idea. A contributing author(s) would be
responsible for one chapter on his/her expertise containing ~15-20 (or
more) printed pages of text/Figures--there will be an estimated 8-10
chapters in total. Topics are completely open as long as annelids
(polychaetes and oligochaetes--including leeches) are the primary
organism of study. Examples include phylogeny, systematics,
physiology, development, regeneration, etc. The time frame for
completion of the final chapter versions is ~1 year from now.
If you are interested, or have any questions, please contact me within
the next few weeks.
Sincerely,
Dan Shain
